What chat alerts can I set up in ByteMate?

ByteMate supports separate chat alerts for follows, subscriptions, resubs, gift subs, bits, raids, watch streak milestones, and ad break start and end. Each alert has its own message, variables, and activity mode.

How does ByteMate's followbot protection work?

On the Follow alert you can enable followbot protection by setting a threshold and a time window. Example: if 10 follows arrive within 10 seconds, ByteMate automatically enables Twitch's shield mode for the channel.

Why does my Ads (end) alert sometimes not appear?

If the stream goes offline during the ad break, the Ads (end) alert is intentionally suppressed instead of being sent into an empty chat.

Chat Alerts

Chat alerts automatically post messages in chat when certain Twitch events occur. This lets you display custom messages for follows, subs, or raids.

Dashboard overview

On this page you define the message, variables, and activity mode per alert. Alerts are per channel.

Configuration

For each chat alert you can enter your own text under Message. Below the field you can see the variables you can use for that alert. Under When active? you decide whether the alert should always trigger or only when the stream is online/offline.

Alert types

The following events can each have their own chat alert:

Follow – triggered when a viewer follows the channel.
Subscription – triggered for new subs and resubscriptions.
Gift subscription – triggered when subs are gifted.
Bits – triggered when a viewer cheers with bits.
Raid – triggered when the channel receives a raid.
Watch streak – triggered when a viewer hits their Twitch watch streak milestone. Use the available variables to include the streak count or viewer name in your message.
Ads (start) – triggered when an ad break starts.
Ads (end) – triggered when the ad break is over. If the stream goes offline during the ad break, the alert is suppressed instead of being sent into an empty chat.
Custom power-up – triggered when a viewer redeems one of your own power-ups with bits.
Twitch power-up – triggered when a viewer uses one of the built-in power-ups (gigantify an emote, celebration, message effect).

Power-up alerts

Power-ups are a Twitch feature where viewers spend bits on an effect in chat. ByteMate distinguishes two kinds:

Custom power-ups are ones you create yourself in your Twitch settings – with your own name, price, and optional viewer input. Available variables: {user}, {title}, {bits}, {prompt}, {input}.
Twitch power-ups are the three built-in effects. Available variables: {user}, {effect}, {effectId}, {bits}, {emote}. {effect} is the name in your language (e.g. Celebration), and {emote} is only filled for "Gigantify an Emote".

Both alerts require affiliate or partner status, since there are no bits without it. ByteMate also needs permission to read bits – if it is missing, the page shows a notice with a link to reconnect. You cannot set an activity mode (When active?) here, because power-ups can only be redeemed during a live stream.

Followbot protection

For the Follow alert you can optionally enable followbot protection. Enable the toggle and set a threshold and time window. Example: threshold and window 10 - if 10 follows happen within 10 seconds, the bot automatically enables Twitch's shield mode.

For Ads (start) and Ads (end) you cannot choose when the alert is active, because ads only run in live mode.
